The Humane Society of The United States does a lot of good work and the Wisconsin facility is very nice. No cages for cats and dogs, instead there are little rooms with beds, etc. They have a supply store inside.
I think that they could improve however by taking animals more actively from MADACC, and by starting a division for the older animals, feral animals, and special needs animals that are harder to find homes for, instead of turning them away.
This is a wonderful facility. I have lived in three states and this Humane Society could be the baseline for all Humane Societies in the country. Thank you for helping the animals.
Very thorough evaluation of animals and the people who want to adopt them. I doubt I will ever get a pet from anywhere else. Excellent training classes and an overall fun place to visit.
It's hard to vote for the best animal shelter, because they are all important & do extraordinary work, but all of my fur kids have come from WHS and I can never repay them or thank them enough for the love they have given my family.
I got my pup at the shelter last year and was impressed how they help you to select a pup that fits with your family. They have a variety of classes you can take with your puppy and organized supervised playtime with other pups. Special events with the animals.
I got a kitten there as a child and I couldn't love him more! He was my best friend when I was little and his name is Whiskers! Great staff and they truely care for the animals!
I voted for Wisconsin Humane Society because I adopted a dog from them and she is wonderful and they called to follow up after the adoption. I also applaud what they did to rescue all the dogs from Puppy Haven Puppy Mill.
I adopted Raider AKA Clyde 2 years ago... the experience was excellent. Especially since I had recently lost my older dog to cancer. I have a background in vet medicine (CVT). Didn't tell them until I was approved because I wanted to see what they had to say. I was impressed. I would definately adopt again from the WHC and tell family and friends!!!
We adopted our perfect pet from WHS in 2004. Riley is the best dog we've ever added to our family! WHS had given him a health check, microchip, shots, neutered him and gave him a brand new collar. The staff helped us make an informed decision as to the pet that was perfect for us.
